This painting was inspired by the race that took place in the Cuban Grand Prix in 1957. The Jaguar D Type driven by Cuba’s own Alfonso Gomez Mena.
The painting focal point is mostly on the Jaguar. A stylized and abstract depiction of the crowd and buidlings ae shown in the background to add some excitement into the scene. I used a reference photo for this but wanted to make sure that I added some more character and exaggeration to the painting. I used Photoshop CS4 to create it. It is always a challenge to create emotional art that can really hit home to those that appreciate the genre of 1950′s Vintage Race’s. Over time I have been just falling completely in love with the era and the beautifully styled cars that are now somewhat lost in today’s world.
